NATIONAL EDUCATION DAY 2022

 

National Education Day 2022: The National Education Day is being celebrated on November 11 every year since 2008 to commemorate the birth anniversary of the first Education Minister Maulana Abul Kalam Azad. Azad played a significant role in shaping the country's education system and laid the base for higher education and scientific research.

Azad has contributed to the set up of several academic institutes- University Grants Commission (UGC), All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), Secondary Education Commission, other bodies. The institutes like Jamia Millia Islamia and IIT Kharagpur were established during his tenure. He was also responsible for establishing Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), Sahitya Academy, Lalit Kala Academy, Sangeet Natak Academy and Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR).

According to Maulana Azad, schools are laboratories that produce future citizens of the country. "The primary aim of any system is to create balanced minds which cannot be misled," he said.

The former president Pranab Mukherjee described Azad as an institution builder and said that several academic bodies like University Grants Commission owe their origins to his tireless efforts. "To create socio-religious and cultural inter-linkages in India, he set up a number of institutions - Lalit Kala Academi, Sangeet Natak Academi and Sahitya Academi," Mukherjee said.

Maulana Azad was posthumously awarded Bharat Ratna, country's highest civilian award in 1992.The National Education Day is being celebrated in India today, November 11 to commemorate the birth anniversary of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, the first Education Minister of India. This day is celebrated to acknowledge and honour Maulana Azad's contribution to the country's education system. The theme for National Education Day 2022 is “Changing Course, Transforming Education.”

Maulana Azad was a great freedom fighter and educationist who was committed to reforming and reshaping India's education system. He played an important role in improving the Indian education structure. He also strongly advocated for women's education. The credit for implementing the modern education system also goes to him.

Under the leadership of Azad, the Ministry of Education (MoE) established the country's first IIT in 1951. Following this the University Grants Commission (UGC) was formed in 1953. He believed that these institutions will prove to be important in the higher education sector in future. All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and the Higher education system were also established during his tenure. His contribution in the establishment of the famous Jamia Millia Islamia University in the country is also commendable.

To celebrate this day schools and colleges organise various programmes, seminars and workshops. Teachers and students also share their thoughts about the importance of literacy and various aspects of education. Essays, speeches, poster making and many other competitions are organized by various schools.
